Job Title: Assistant Athletic Training

Reports To: Director of Athletics

Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Summary/objective

Mount Saint Mary College (MSMC), an NCAA Division III institution located in Newburgh, NY and member of the Skyline Conference, is looking for a motivated, energetic and passionate individual to be the next Assistant Athletic Trainer. Reporting directly to the Head Athletic Trainer and Associate Athletic Director, the Assistant Athletic Trainer will support the Head Athletic Trainer with the oversight of sports medicine coverage for 20 NCAA Division III varsity sports.

  • Support the care, prevention, rehabilitation and treatment of athletic injuries for student-athletes.
  • Provide daily coverage for all practices and competitions, including some travel responsibilities as determined by the Director of Athletics and/or Associate Athletic Director.
  • Work with the Mount Saint Mary College team physician and arrange for injury and illness treatment.
  • Collect and maintain complete, accurate and detailed medical records through SportsWare and work with secondary insurance company as required.
  • Supervise the athletic department’s health and safety programs including, but not limited to,
  • Maintain NATA certification and New York State licensure through CEUs.
  • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in the selection, purchase and maintenance of all athletic training equipment and medical supplies while working within the parameters of the department budget.
  • Help to update annually and maintain Student-Athlete Handbook and the Sports Medicine Emergency Action Plan.
  • Represent Mount Saint Mary College Athletics at all Skyline Conference athletic training meetings when necessary.
  • The successful candidate will ensure a culture of compliance with all NCAA Division III, Skyline Conference and Mount Saint Mary College rules and regulations and ensure all staff members and student-athletes comply with the same.

Work environment

  • Office Setting: cubicles, open desks, or private offices with access to necessary tools like computers, phones and office supplies.
  • Outdoors: being outside for multiple hours in conjunction with practices or competitions will be required.

Physical demands

  • Sitting: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or workstation.
  • Typing/Computer Use: Frequent use of a computer keyboard and mouse.
  • Vision Requirements: Ability to read and view screens for extended periods.
  • Speaking/Hearing: Regular communication with coworkers and clients in person, over the phone, or via video calls.
  • Lifting/Carrying: Occasionally lifting or moving items up to 10-15 pounds, such as office supplies, laptops, or documents.
  • Reaching/Bending: Periodic reaching for or bending to access files, supplies, or equipment.
  • Mobility: Walking short distances within the office or to meeting rooms.

Travel required

This position requires occasional overnight travel, including local trips to other colleges, as well as travel for championship competitions, the NATA Convention, and conference meetings.

Required education and experience

  1. Bachelor’s Degree (required)
  2. 3-5 years experiences working in collegiate or high school athletics.
  3. BOC Certification, New York State licensure or eligibility, AED/CPR Certification.
  4. Experience working with SportsWare or similar athletic training program.
  5. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  6. Demonstrated flexibility and professionalism, with a high standard of personal conduct and integrity.
  7. Supervisory experience.

Preferred education and experience

  • Master’s Degree preferred in athletic training or related field.
