Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Middle School Computer Science Teacher at Saint Thomas’ Episcopal School in Houston, TX. The teacher will be responsible for planning and executing engaging and effective computer science lessons for middle school students. Duties include developing curriculum, instructing students in key computer science concepts, facilitating hands-on learning, and evaluating student progress. The teacher will also collaborate with colleagues, communicate with parents, and contribute to the broader school community to ensure an enriching educational experience for students.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

Instructional Excellence & Classical Pedagogy

• Dynamic Lesson Delivery: Create and teach engaging lessons that cover a range of topics, including programming using Java, AP Computer Science, and an advanced research course on Algorithms and Data, utilizing Python, Java, and SQL.
• Projects: Guide students in developing meaningful projects using programming skills.
• Differentiated Learning: Empower students to take charge of their learning by providing necessary scaffolding and resources while maintaining high academic expectations for all learning styles.

Christian Worldview & Mentorship

• Spiritual Leadership: Serve as a Christian role model, modeling the school’s core values of Honor, Faith, Love, Discipline, Excellence, and Respect in and out of the classroom.
• Student Discipleship: Act as a mentor and advisor to students, supporting their academic, social, and emotional growth while fostering a culture of belonging and accountability.

Assessment & Administration

• Comprehensive Assessment: Design and administer formative and summative assessments, including written examinations, projects, and oral presentations, to track student progress.
• Data Management: Maintain accurate, up-to-date records for attendance and grading within VeraCross and utilize Google Suite for efficient workflow.
• Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, orderly, and aesthetically enriching learning environment conducive to student focus and executive functioning.

Professional Engagement

• Parental Partnership: Maintain proactive and open communication with parents regarding student progress and well-being, demonstrating strong customer service.
• Faculty Collaboration: Actively participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school traditions such as the Fall Fair or Spaghetti Supper.
• Continuous Growth: Pursue personal and professional growth through self-reflection and participation in the school’s evaluation programs.

Required Qualifications & Skills Education / Certification:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is required; a Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
• Experience Required: A minimum of 2 years of related work experience is required, with a preference for those who have taught AP Computer Science.
• Required Knowledge: High proficiency in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive) and experience with Student Information Systems like VeraCross.

Compensation and Benefits: Compensation is dependent upon experience and degree obtained.
