Job Description

Lead Security Guard

The U.S. Army Installation Management Command (IMCOM) handles the day-to-day operations of Army installations.

Duties
  • Serve as a Shift Leader who is an assistant to the Guard Shift Supervisor.
  • Enter personnel information to determine the appropriate access for individuals entering a location.
  • Support the implementation of installation emergency plans and the patrolling of restricted and limited access areas.
  • Enter data into automated forms to provide visitor passes.
  • Check identification and vehicles to ensure only authorized personnel are allowed access.
Requirements

Conditions of employment include:

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Position may be designated as Mission Essential depending on location.
  • Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability.
  • In accordance with Army Regulation (AR) 190-56, must meet the requirements of Individual Reliability Program.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. Incumbent agrees to submit to a mandatory command directed urinalysis on a recurring basis.
  • Incumbent is required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT) as outlined in AR 190-56.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and First Aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminals.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Incumbent must wear the prescribed Department of Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56; must maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • The duties and training require for the employee to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.
  • Incumbent is required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Incumbent must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Verifying identification through identification cards, badges, and automated records; 2) Inspecting containers, personal property, documents on private, commercial and/or government vehicles; and 3) Exercising crowd control in situations that may become violent or unruly. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
