Job Description

As a Patient Transporter at Marshfield Clinic – Archive within Marshfield Clinic Health System – Marshfield Children’s, you will play a vital role in delivering safe, compassionate pediatric care across a large, integrated health system. Working within the Healthcare & Medical Services department, you will be responsible for safely transporting pediatric patients, families, and essential equipment to and from inpatient units, outpatient clinics, diagnostic areas, surgery, and ancillary services throughout the facility. You will use transport equipment such as wheelchairs, stretchers, cribs, and specialty pediatric transport devices, ensuring proper patient identification, comfort, privacy, and infection control at all times. In this role, you will collaborate closely with nurses, physicians, therapists, and support staff in a highly coordinated, patient-first environment. You will monitor patient condition during transport, recognize signs of distress, and promptly alert clinical staff when concerns arise. You will follow established safety protocols, including safe lifting and transfer techniques, fall prevention practices, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment. Accurate, timely communication via phones, pagers, or electronic systems will be essential to prioritize and complete transport requests efficiently and support optimal patient flow. You will also assist with non-clinical support tasks such as preparing transport equipment, cleaning and disinfecting wheelchairs and stretchers between uses, restocking linens and supplies, and maintaining clear and safe corridors. You will be expected to follow all hospital policies, infection prevention guidelines, patient confidentiality (HIPAA) standards, and service excellence expectations, always demonstrating compassion, integrity, and respect for children and their families. Marshfield Clinic – Archive fosters a collaborative, team-based culture that values continuous improvement, innovation, and staff well-being. As a Patient Transporter, you will be encouraged to participate in ongoing training related to pediatric safety, customer service, cultural competence, and quality improvement. You will work within multidisciplinary teams focused on clinical excellence and efficient care delivery, with leadership support for building your skills and advancing within the health system. This role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in pediatric healthcare, develop strong foundational skills in hospital operations and patient support, and contribute meaningfully to the experience of children and families receiving care across central and northern Wisconsin. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, and comfortable working with children and families in a fast-paced hospital environment. You should be able to communicate clearly and kindly with patients of varying ages and developmental stages, as well as with parents, guardians, and clinical staff. You must be able to walk and stand for extended periods, push and maneuver wheelchairs and stretchers, and assist with patient transfers, sometimes in urgent or emotionally sensitive situations. A strong commitment to teamwork, professionalism, punctuality, and service excellence is essential, along with a willingness to learn and adapt as processes and technologies evolve within this innovative pediatric care setting.
