Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) at Montana State Hospital provides skilled nursing care, assessment, planning, interventions, and evaluation for adult clients in a geriatric psychiatric inpatient setting. This role involves supporting a therapeutic environment, assigning and directing nursing personnel, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team. The RN must demonstrate expertise in de-escalation techniques and psychopharmacology, with a focus on patient rights and treatment planning. Flexibility with facility scheduling and a commitment to quality psychiatric nursing care are essential.

Responsibilities:

• Perform nursing assessments, treatment planning, interventions, and evaluations for adult psychiatric clients.
• Provide assistance and support to maintain a therapeutic environment.
• Assign work and provide direction and training to subordinate nursing personnel.
• Document patient assessments and nursing care accurately and thoroughly.
• Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and team members both verbally and in writing.
• Utilize technology related to patient care information systems proficiently.
• Apply knowledge of psychopharmacology and patient rights in nursing care.
• Use de-escalation skills to manage challenging behaviors.
• Comply with facility policies and procedures, including medication administration and safety protocols.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Montana or compact licensure.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in geriatric psychiatric nursing.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing degree program.
• Knowledge of nursing, medications, psychopharmacology, and treatment planning.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to perform accurate patient assessments and documentation.
• Proficiency in patient care information systems and nursing technology.
• Driver's license and required certifications including BLS.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
• At least 1 year of travel contract nursing experience.

Special Considerations:

• Flexibility to work varied facility schedules as assigned, including 7a-7p shifts.
• Experience and skill in de-escalation techniques critical for psychiatric settings.
• Shift differential and one meal provided per shift.
• Work environment focused on geriatric psychiatric inpatient care.

Scheduling:

• Primary shift is 12-hour day shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
• Scheduling is flexible and coordinated with facility needs.
• Assignment duration from September 22, 2026, to December 26, 2026.
